{"id":108,"date":"2014-07-22T17:11:55","date_gmt":"2014-07-22T17:11:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/yogapantsdiary.com\/?p=108"},"modified":"2014-08-05T19:08:53","modified_gmt":"2014-08-05T19:08:53","slug":"restaurant-blues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/yogapantsdiary.com\/?p=108","title":{"rendered":"Restaurant Blues"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As I began my diet, one thing I did not want to give up was meals out with friends or the hubby.\u00a0 I knew this was something I had to figure out and quick.\u00a0 One of the first things I did was look up what I used to eat and compare it to a healthier option on the menu.\u00a0 Even if your local eatery doesn&#8217;t provide nutritional facts, you can usually find them online or find a close comparison.\u00a0 Let&#8217;s start with a restaurant we all know and love: McDonalds. <a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/yogapantsdiary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/1280px-Mcdonalds-90s-logo.svg_.png\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-109 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/yogapantsdiary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/1280px-Mcdonalds-90s-logo.svg_-300x227.png?resize=229%2C173\" alt=\"1280px-Mcdonalds-90s-logo.svg\" width=\"229\" height=\"173\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/yogapantsdiary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/1280px-Mcdonalds-90s-logo.svg_.png?resize=300%2C227&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/yogapantsdiary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/1280px-Mcdonalds-90s-logo.svg_.png?resize=1024%2C776&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/yogapantsdiary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/1280px-Mcdonalds-90s-logo.svg_.png?resize=1200%2C909&amp;ssl=1 1200w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/yogapantsdiary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/1280px-Mcdonalds-90s-logo.svg_.png?w=1280&amp;ssl=1 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 229px) 100vw, 229px\" \/><\/a>I know I know I know.\u00a0 McDonald&#8217;s is a soul sucking corporation that blah blah blah.\u00a0 We all eat there when we have to right? Here&#8217;s a comparison on what I used to get to what I get now:<\/p>\n<p>Large Coke, Big Mac, Large Fry\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 1340 Calories and 53 Grams of Fat<\/p>\n<p>Cheeseburger Kids Meal\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 410 Calories and 17 Grams of Fat<\/p>\n<p>While still not nutritious, this was an easy switch.\u00a0 I still got a burger.\u00a0 I still got fries, just less.\u00a0 Oh and they still give you a toy even when you are an adult!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Simple Switches<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Here are some restaurant rules to ease anxiety when eating out.\u00a0 I guarantee any restaurant will have healthier choices, you just might not have looked before!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/yogapantsdiary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/453ae713-fba8-4a68-94e6-a39e65b81506.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-110 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/yogapantsdiary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/453ae713-fba8-4a68-94e6-a39e65b81506-300x169.jpg?resize=300%2C169\" alt=\"453ae713-fba8-4a68-94e6-a39e65b81506\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/yogapantsdiary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/453ae713-fba8-4a68-94e6-a39e65b81506.jpg?resize=300%2C169&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/yogapantsdiary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/453ae713-fba8-4a68-94e6-a39e65b81506.jpg?w=780&amp;ssl=1 780w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>1. Dressing on the side &#8211; We&#8217;ve all heard it!\u00a0 It works.\u00a0 You don&#8217;t know how much they have put in if you don&#8217;t measure it yourself.\u00a0 Some salads have as much as a quarter cup of dressing on them, which makes them a worse decision thaa a sandwich with fries.\u00a0 It might feel healthier but is probably higher in calories.\u00a0 At one of my favorite Denver restaurants, Sam&#8217;s No. 3, they have a wedge salad with bacon, blue cheese and AN ONION RING ON TOP!\u00a0 The first time I got it it was drenched in dressing.\u00a0 The next time I asked for it on the side and they brought be a CEREAL BOWL of dressing.\u00a0 Yikes. Still a salad with an onion ring on top? Yes please.<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0 Baked Not Fried &#8211; I love me s<img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-111 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/yogapantsdiary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/c7872d_748811296c3e4137bc936e44cb4c5dde.jpg?resize=256%2C269\" alt=\"c7872d_748811296c3e4137bc936e44cb4c5dde\" width=\"256\" height=\"269\" \/>ome chicken! However, I try to find a grilled chicken sandwich instead of fried.\u00a0 This can be especially hard if you are a wings lover.\u00a0 Most places fry their wings but you will occasionally find them baked if you ask.\u00a0 Did you know Buffalo Wild Wings boneless wings are 100 calories a pop? Don&#8217;t worry. I cried too. Baked chicken is much less in calories and fat than fried.\u00a0 Also, then you don&#8217;t have to feel bad about having cheese on it or other condiments.\u00a0 If you&#8217;re only option is fried, eat half!\u00a0 My hubby and I order a sandwich split between the two of us at a local bar.\u00a0 They bring it out in two baskets and we usually end up with extra fries!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>3.\u00a0 Buns &#8211; Eat half.\u00a0 Bread is not <img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-112 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/yogapantsdiary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Hamburger-Bun-small-300x196.jpg?resize=264%2C209\" alt=\"Hamburger Bun small\" width=\"264\" height=\"209\" \/>important to me although I know there are bread lovers out there.\u00a0 I&#8217;d rather eat the whole sandwich with half or no bun then eat half with.\u00a0 This might be hard for some of you.\u00a0 However, cutting out half of a huge restaurant style bun will save around 200 calories every time.\u00a0 Again, I&#8217;d rather eat other things!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/yogapantsdiary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/deep-fried-heaven.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-113 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/yogapantsdiary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/deep-fried-heaven-300x199.jpg?resize=300%2C199\" alt=\"deep-fried-heaven\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/yogapantsdiary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/deep-fried-heaven.jpg?resize=300%2C199&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/yogapantsdiary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/deep-fried-heaven.jpg?w=550&amp;ssl=1 550w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>4.\u00a0 Fried Awesomeness &#8211; You will never be able to hide from french fries, onion rings, tater tots and chips forever.\u00a0 AND they usually come as an automatic side to most dishes.\u00a0 If you don&#8217;t trust yourself not to eat them, ask for a side salad, fruit or veggies.\u00a0 Most restaurants will do the switch free of charge.\u00a0 However, like I said you can&#8217;t avoid them forever.\u00a0 It is FINE to have some but the usual portion is more than enough.\u00a0 Have just a few and then take them off your plate.\u00a0 Try to see how many you can have left after you feel full.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Especially at the beginning of losing weight, these switches will help you drop the pounds faster as well as feel hungry again sooner.\u00a0 You know the feeling of &#8220;Can Someone Please Roll Me Out To My Car?&#8221; after endless pasta and breadsticks? You&#8217;re not supposed to feel that way after eating a meal!\u00a0 Once in a blue moon for a special occasion is fine, but Thursday night?
