{"id":968,"date":"2015-07-14T11:38:11","date_gmt":"2015-07-14T17:38:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/yogapantsdiary.com\/?p=968"},"modified":"2015-07-15T08:59:32","modified_gmt":"2015-07-15T14:59:32","slug":"rock-climbing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/yogapantsdiary.com\/?p=968","title":{"rendered":"Rock Climbing @ Earth Treks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Lately I&#8217;ve been feeling like the summer is getting away from me way too quickly!\u00a0 I haven&#8217;t done nearly as many things as I hoped to.\u00a0 Last month I had ants in my pants about getting to do more things.\u00a0 So we made plans for hiking a 14er and signing up for indoor rock climbing. <a href=\"http:\/\/yogapantsdiary.com\/?p=950\">Read about my 14er experience here<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>Rock climbing is something I&#8217;ve been interested in for a while.\u00a0 I first looked in to it this winter when I was stuck inside and going crazy.\u00a0 Since I live in the climbing capital of the world, there were LOTS of options.\u00a0 I started on Groupon and asked around for advice on where to go.\u00a0 I very quickly found <a href=\"https:\/\/www.earthtreksclimbing.com\/co\/\">Earth Treks.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/yogapantsdiary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/ear-0130124741.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-969\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/yogapantsdiary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/ear-0130124741.jpg?resize=240%2C237\" alt=\"ear-0130124741\" width=\"240\" height=\"237\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/yogapantsdiary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/ear-0130124741.jpg?w=240&amp;ssl=1 240w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/yogapantsdiary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/ear-0130124741.jpg?resize=150%2C148&amp;ssl=1 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 240px) 100vw, 240px\" \/><\/a>Earth Treks is one of the larger climbing gyms near Denver.\u00a0 It&#8217;s located in Golden, CO.\u00a0 Although I wish it was closer, it is easy to get to.\u00a0 A friend of a friend recommended this place as well as a staff member at our local outdoor store: REI. They also have a introduction package that I thought was worth the deal.<\/p>\n<p>For $79 you get a BOGO offer for two introductory classes and a 15 day open pass.\u00a0\u00a0 I definitely needed the introduction class and the hubby needed a refresher.\u00a0 So we signed up for this past Saturday and went.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>When I try new things now, I get less and less nervous.\u00a0 I find that I&#8217;m so fit now that it&#8217;s hard to surprise myself with what I could do.\u00a0 I wasn&#8217;t nervous about my abilities to rock climb but I was nervous about the height.\u00a0 While I don&#8217;t have a natural fear of heights, I do have a fear of falling.\u00a0 I hate that suspended feeling.\u00a0 You know when you&#8217;re in an elevator and there&#8217;s that second of suspension before you get to your floor? That makes my stomach flip every single time. So I wasn&#8217;t sure how my brain would react to the heights of climbing and how it might effect me physically.<a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/yogapantsdiary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/11695823_10102799520261059_3360795853493651364_n.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-972\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/yogapantsdiary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/11695823_10102799520261059_3360795853493651364_n.jpg?resize=525%2C700\" alt=\"11695823_10102799520261059_3360795853493651364_n\" width=\"525\" height=\"700\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/yogapantsdiary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/11695823_10102799520261059_3360795853493651364_n.jpg?w=720&amp;ssl=1 720w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/yogapantsdiary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/11695823_10102799520261059_3360795853493651364_n.jpg?resize=225%2C300&amp;ssl=1 225w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/yogapantsdiary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/11695823_10102799520261059_3360795853493651364_n.jpg?resize=113%2C150&amp;ssl=1 113w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 525px) 100vw, 525px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The staff at Earth Treks was great!\u00a0 We went for our introduction class this past Saturday.\u00a0 They taught us all the basics of climbing: knots, harness, safety, belay and a little bit of movement.\u00a0 On my first climb, I made it to the top with ease.\u00a0 The course we chose was fairly easy for our first time.\u00a0 I couldn&#8217;t believe how easy it was to pull myself to the top.\u00a0 I found myself thinking, &#8220;What&#8217;s the big deal?&#8221;. Just wait&#8230;..<\/p>\n<p>I didn&#8217;t have any fears of falling while climbing.\u00a0 Maybe it was because my hubby was my anchor (belay is the proper term) and I knew he&#8217;d never let anything happen. Even when I turned to look at the top of the wall or glanced down to find the next foothold, I never got scared.\u00a0 Each climb got harder and harder.\u00a0 We selected harder courses and moved to a taller wall.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/yogapantsdiary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/11139010_10102799522162249_9012052015838964710_n.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-973\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/yogapantsdiary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/11139010_10102799522162249_9012052015838964710_n.jpg?resize=525%2C700\" alt=\"11139010_10102799522162249_9012052015838964710_n\" width=\"525\" height=\"700\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/yogapantsdiary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/11139010_10102799522162249_9012052015838964710_n.jpg?w=720&amp;ssl=1 720w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/yogapantsdiary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/11139010_10102799522162249_9012052015838964710_n.jpg?resize=225%2C300&amp;ssl=1 225w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/yogapantsdiary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/11139010_10102799522162249_9012052015838964710_n.jpg?resize=113%2C150&amp;ssl=1 113w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 525px) 100vw, 525px\" \/><\/a>By my third time up, my arms were exhausted!\u00a0 I don&#8217;t currently do a lot of forearm work because&#8230;..well I never thought about it!\u00a0 But my forearms ached the rest of the day! Some parts of rock climbing are easier than I thought while others are harder.\u00a0 It definitely uses different muscles than I usually work.
